Coffee Table Books | My Top 5 Favourite Design Books
I may or may not have a slight addiction to coffee table books. Okay, I definitely have an addiction to coffee table books! But admitting I have a problem is the first step to recovering though right? Coffee table books are the simplest and one of the best ways to style your coffee table. They add immediate visual interest, and are create for layering and stacking to get that height with your other accessories. Here are some of my favourite books from my current collection, and a couple that I’m currently coveting. I may need to get some help soon since my coffee table is going to run out of space soon. I suppose I could always just get a bigger coffee table though!
AN EYE FOR DESIGN – by Allegra Hicks
“Allegra’s original textile and pattern designs are presented alongside inspiring photography of interiors, landscapes, and objects, tracing the genesis of the distinctive patterns she has created over the two decades she has been designing. Essays on design, colour, and seasonal inspiration encourage readers to look at interiors and fabrics in a new and refreshing way. Allegra Hicks is a voyage through a wonderfully creative mind, one that has been influenced by a rich Italian and English heritage, as well as a lifetime of travel and interesting characters.”
This book is the book that started my coffee table collection. I am obsessed with pillows and textiles, and how they can influence a space. So this book was a natural favourite for me. Highlighting the four seasons and showing how different patterns, coours, and textures can mix together to create a look that’s inspired by Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

The best part about this book is now you get to take her perfectly curated home with you for some great interior design inspiration for your own home.
THINGS WE LOVE – By Kate Space
“Created in celebration of Kate Spade New York’s twentieth anniversary, this charming coffee-table book is part visual diary and part anthology of inspiration, taking readers on an adventurous, lushly illustrated tour of the brand’s colourful world. Things We Love first began as a playful side project. Long before the days of pinboards and blogs, the brand’s in-house creative team began amassing a collection of things we love in a hidden section of the Kate Spade New York website: vintage matchbooks, a clever doodle or a particularly dreamy photograph. Over the years, these special finds grew into a beautiful compilation that visually captured the spirit of Kate Spade New York – a place where cultural curiosity is encouraged, clever design is key and fashion is fun.”
Although this may not be an interior design book, it is still worthy of being on my favourite design book list, because you can’t help but be inspired while flipping through its pages. To me Kate Spade is the perfect brand – it’s flirty and fun but still classic. It proves that you can have fun with your designs and make it truly your own, and it still being beautiful and timeless in your eyes. And of course its gilded golden edge pages really adds some glam to your coffee table!
THIS CAN BE BEAUTIFUL – by Tiffany Pratt
“A visual and creative feast for anyone who wants to imagine and build a more beautiful life. Stylist, designer, HGTV star and fairy godmother of glitter, Tiffany Pratt looks at the world as a blank canvas. With every choice she is presented or every decision she makes, she does it with one mantra in mind: that this – whatever “this” is – can be beautiful.”
This book has certainly made it onto my wish. Tiffany Pratt is so over the top amazing with her vibrant personality and even bright hair, now you get to have fourty-eight of her favourite DIY projects. For all those DIY-lovers out there, this is definitely going to become your new bible for all things hand-made!
THE FINER THINGS – by Christiane Lemieux
“Quality matters. Just as a home’s foundation should be built to stand the test of time, so, too, should the furniture, objects, and elements of our rooms speak to an enduring sense of beauty and comfort. They should outlast trends and our loving day-to-day use. But how does one recognize quality and judge whether something is well made?”
The second book on my wish list to add to my ever growing coffee table book collection. Even if this book wasn’t very interesting on the inside, the cover alone is worth the purchase. But luckily the inside sounds just as good as the outside, with an in depth investigation into quality and functional pieces for your home from wallpaper and paint specialists, to textile fabricators, to interior designers to give you the ultimate education in all things home décor. The perfect guide to creating a timelessly styled home that will outlast the coming and going trends, with a stunning cover to elevate your coffee table style.
