Architecture Envy | Toronto Edition

I’m sure it’s pretty obvious by now that I have become obsessed with including some form of nature in design. A while back, I posted about the beautiful Tower of Cedars being built in Switzerland, and only dreamed of having something like that built in Toronto. Well it looks like those dreams may be coming true! There have been a couple of submissions for green living buildings to be built in Toronto, which is so exciting. Finally Toronto will have something new and different to break up all the other condos being built in this city.

Architecture Envy | Modern Tree House

As I'm sure you've all figured out by now I love design that brings the outdoors in and combined the concrete jungle man has created with the natural one surrounding as Mother Nature created. The architect Aibek Almossav, designed a glass tubular home built entirely around a tree. In an interview he stated, "I respect nature, it feeds us but we destroy it." I couldn't agree more. This home is a piece of art, and it would allow people to live at one with their natural surrounding without having to disturb or destroy it in the process...

Architecture Envy | Transformed Clock Tower

There’s nothing like an old building that has new life breathed into it. There are lots of old clothing factories that have been converted into new condos. It’s so appealing and on trend right now, with the mixing of industrial elements including the exposed HVAC, pipes and electrical, concrete floors, and brick walls. Mixing all those elements in with some furnishings makes a truly unique and interesting interior.

However this old converted clock tower doesn’t contain any of those factory elements, but it definitely still posses that raw factor. The interior is finished beautifully with hardwood floors, high gloss kitchen cabinets and stainless steel appliances...

Architecture Envy | Reimagined Central Park

Designers Yitan Sun and Jianshi Wu have created a proposal submission for the 2016 Skyscraper Competition, which completely reimagines Central Park in New York City. And I must say that this is a pretty incredible design.  They’re proposing to excavate Central Park down to it’s bedrock, exposing the “mountains” that are just below the familiar surface.

The concept behind the design is to redefine the “traditional relationship between landscape and architecture, in a way that every occupiable space has direct connection to the nature.” This redesign will allow more people the ability to experience the park and escape the concrete jungle of the city that never sleeps...

Architecture Envy | The Tower of Cedars

I am a big believer in combining our man-made environment with the natural one that surrounds us. There are so many pluses to introducing nature into design from warming up an interior to softening the concrete jungle that we live in. We’ve all seen green roofs on select houses and towers, but The Tower of Cedars takes the concept to a whole new level!

This 36-story condo tower is an amazing way to bring nature back into our cities. With four different types of cedars totaling over 100 trees, as well as 18,000 plants and 6,000 shrubs there's no shortage of greenery...
